Why Reviews Are Your Cheapest Marketing Channel (And How to Get Them Consistently)

By Nail Tech Success Team

The Most Underused Tool in Your Marketing Toolkit

When a potential new client is choosing between two nail techs in their area, they do what everyone does — they look at reviews. Not your website. Not your follower count. Reviews.

A business with 50 genuine five-star reviews looks trustworthy, established, and safe to book with. A business with three reviews from two years ago — even if the work is incredible — raises questions.

Reviews are your social proof. They're the digital equivalent of word of mouth. And unlike paid advertising, they cost you nothing except a good client experience and a timely ask.

Why Most Techs Don't Get Enough Reviews

It's not that clients don't want to leave reviews. Most happy clients genuinely intend to. But after they leave your salon, life takes over. They get distracted. Leaving a review goes on the mental to-do list — and stays there.

The fix? Ask at the right moment, with the right friction removed.

The best time to ask for a review is when the client is at peak happiness — not three weeks later, not with a vague "feel free to leave a review sometime!" comment at the end of the appointment.

The best way to remove friction? Give them a direct link that takes them straight to the review page, with zero searching required.

How the Success Planner Automates Review Requests

The Nail Tech Success Planner has a built-in review request system. After an appointment is marked as completed, a personalised email is automatically sent to the client with direct links to your review pages — Google, Facebook, Trustpilot, or wherever you prefer to collect reviews.

You set up your review links once in your settings, and the system does the rest. Every completed appointment becomes a potential review, without you having to remember to follow up.

What to Include in Your Review Request Email

Your automated email should:

  • Be warm and personal — use the client's name and mention the service
  • Acknowledge that you appreciate them — not just transactionally
  • Make it easy — include one or two direct links, not a general instruction to "find us on Google"
  • Not be pressurising — a good client will respond better to a genuine ask than a desperate one

Example:

"Hi [Name], thank you so much for coming in for your [Service] — I hope you love your nails! If you have a moment, I'd really appreciate it if you could leave a quick review. It means the world to small businesses like mine. Here's a link to make it easy: [Google Review Link]"

Where to Collect Reviews

The best platforms for nail techs:

  • Google — the most trusted by new clients searching locally
  • Facebook — great for community-based and referral bookings
  • Treatwell or Fresha — if you're listed on these platforms

You don't need to be on all of them. Pick one or two and direct all your review energy there. A concentrated set of 40 reviews on Google is more valuable than 10 spread across four platforms.

Reviews as Content

Don't stop at collecting reviews. Use them:

  • Screenshot and share them on Instagram Stories
  • Add a testimonials section to your booking page
  • Use specific phrases from reviews in your profile bio ("clients say my work is 'meticulous and worth every penny'")

Set It Up Today

Go to Settings → Booking Settings in your Nail Tech Success Planner, add your Google and/or Facebook review link, and turn on automated review requests. From that point forward, every completed appointment works towards building your reputation — automatically.
